1985 ACF District 4

held at Dalton, Georgia  - Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, October 25-27, 1985

Elbert Lowder won the District 4 Open "Southeastern" held Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, October 25-27, 1985 in Dalton, George at the Holiday Inn.  He won first prize of $150.  Tim Laverty was runner-up and John Webster was third to give the Tar Heels a sweep of win, place, and show.  Next were Bob Butler, Les Balderson, Ezra Rolander, G. Baty, Jim Guthrie, Paul Davis, and Gene Lindsay through the top 10.  Junes Butler won the Class B Tourney and $100.  Following were B.T. Jones, Raleigh Johnson, C. Lankford, L. Castello, J. Weatherly, E. Brooks, E. McConnell, C. Lowe, C. Middleton, W. Hadley, J. Truitt, R. Frye, R. Finster, and W. Holder through the top 15.  There were 49 entrants (20 in Class A and 29 in Class B), and $1,320 in prize money was paid ( $680 and $640).  This tourney was played in seven 4-game rounds - some did not attend because of the three 4-game rounds in one day.  Elbert Lowder has proposed that two-day and three-day tourneys  (having 4-game rounds) allow those who do not wish to play the third round of the day to take a 2-point bye for those rounds.  Elbert would like to have comments of tourney players on this - write to him at 302 Raleigh St., Sanford, NC 27330.  [ACF #198, page 1 - December 1985]
